WordPress 2.1 will have a spell-checker but…

March 27, 2006

there’s some limitations. I personally don’t imagine using it much, just like I have spell-checker turned off on my email program. What irks me more than typos are things that spell-checkers aren’t going to pick up: in particular the misuse of “it’s”.

I’m looking forward to have it, though… A Spaniard like me needs some help from time to time… ;-)

I usually use Google Toolbar to check posts (I am not a very good speller) but that only works sometimes…

I suspect that we will be stuck with American English as the default and possibly only one available. That will leave those of us that spell centre, honour and colour properly (the English way) a bit stuck…

Re: “it’s” vs. “its” – I think what you would want then is a spell checker/grammar checker then. It’s just like when you type “The man is wearing a hot”. It’s not going to pick up a spelling mistake since it’s correctly evaluating each word on a word by word basis for spelling accuracy, but potentially a grammar/context checker could pick up errors like this.

MS Word tries very hard to detect grammar errors, but in my experience it is usually wrong.

Uhm, I have wordpress 2.0.2 already for a week or 2. I can suggest to upgrade to that version as well.

I have 2.0.1 running on my blog and will upgrade to 2.0.2 shortly – I’m referring to 2.1 :)

hoorah! I’ve had my fingers crossed for a spell checker for a while now :) Not that I necessarily *trust* them, but they’re good for pointing out real clangers that can be missed in the haste to get a post out!
