our thoughts

Yesterday I made a quick drop by our local supermarket hoping to collect 5 items. The store has recently had a makeover and everything has completely been moved around. Now I’m sure there’s been hours of research and logic into where everything has now been placed but I just wandered around the store feeling frustrated and lost. I was in a hurry and didn’t feel like learning something new. “Eeek.. where’s the salad dressing gone to?” The place looks nicer and seems more organised, but it’ll take me time to get my head around it.

That’s exactly how I first felt when I saw the new dashboard for WordPress 2.7. “Eeek.. where’s the big “Write” button I’m so used to?” Now, I know how much work has gone into this version of WordPress, so I’m looking forward to learning the differences.

My next impression: is it just me or does WordPress 2.7′s new menu remind you of MovableType from years ago with its little menu with icons down the left hand side?

It’s still a little rough around the edges in places with a few rounded buttons looking odd in my Firefox 2 on a Mac:

… but there are some nice changes which will save me time. For example, adding a photo to a post now works on my Mac in the Flash mode so I don’t have to switch to modes each time. The new defaults (no link, full size image) save me time too.

Thanks and credit to the WordPress team who have listened to our complaints about moving “Categories” and “Tags” from the right sidebar to below the post body and have moved them back, yay!
