Why is it that so many gorgeous business sites have their blog linking over to Blogger with a basic template which looks nothing like their main site?

I’ve come across so many little indie websites lately for photographers, clothing sites, baby sites, mom sites, consumer products – you name it – and they have a gorgeous website which has obviously been professionally designed and yet their blog is a link over to Blogger?

It would be so easy to convert their main website to run on WordPress with the blog being a part of it.

There’s so many advantages to running your main website and your blog on the one install of WordPress. Here’s just some of them:

  1. The blog (and its images) would still be on their own domain name, helping build SEO and awareness of their work
  2. Their main website would be easier to update
  3. Branding or design changes would only need to be done once
  4. The blog content could be more integrated with the rest of the site. For example, the latest blog post or photos could automatically be on the homepage
  5. Consistency – visitors wouldn’t be redirected off elsewhere and may not know which site to bookmark or return to
  6. Maintenance – one CMS to update, one set of files to back up

This all seems just so straightforward – but yet it’s not being done. Is this a symptom of a segment of the population thinking their blog has to be separate from their main site or thinking Blogger is where blogging is at?

Are blogs still an afterthought for many small consumer-related businesses starting up?
