Blog design trend: multicolored top border
March 13, 2006
An adaption of the top border trend that I’ve been seeing on a number of blogs recently is a multicolored top border:

BlogsMujer, Firewheel Design and Veerle’s newly redesigned blog are a few examples.

reminds me a little of that candy colored design I used to have on my first blog

I love Veerle’s! Her site is so amazing, was looking at it yesterday! It’s so fabulous!

what’s the reason Rachel?
just for prettiness?

i think the trend is great. it allows for a much greater color palette for website layouts. i’ve always limited myself to three or four colors but having a multi color top bar gives you so much more flexibility. i guess the trick is not getting carried away.
as great as veerle’s layout is, i think there are way too many colors going on. just my own personal tastes.

Stephan, I can’t read their minds but I’d guess that it adds an artistic feel to the sites and as derek said, it provides the opportunity to use more than a couple of colors in the template.

We stole the idea from Dan: http://chameleon.simplebits.com/
I think the look is just swell.

What’s interesting to me is the adoption of rather rounded geometric sans serif typefaces on all three.
