The hidden shelf

I’m really loving this award-winning hidden shelf from Umbra:

The entire shelf is hidden once full of books - letting the books themselves become almost an artpiece (certainly not something you’d want in an earthquake-prone area, or near little kids). I love that the shelf does its job while being so invisible.

  1. That is the neatest thing. Is the first book attached? Because it would be more interesting if you could and have a bunch of floating art.

Floating DVD stacks? Meh, not as pretty.

  2. Sorry should have explained it properly - there’s two tiny hidden clasps which hold the bottom books cover up against the shelf. So there’s no fake books in the stack :)

  3. Wow, this is really cool.
It’s a very nice design item but probably not practical to someone like me who has hundreds of books.
