cre8d redesign

December 28, 2006

I’ve been putting off updating my site all year. It’s been one of those things which I’ve wanted to spend a lot of time on and never really had it. One that I wanted to do really well, and reflect me, my style, my attitude. Redesigning your own site is probably the hardest of all. You want it to be so perfect that you keep putting it off when you do get that spare moment.

So, I bit the bullet and redesigned. It’s not finished, it will be a work-in-progress (isn’t everything) and there’s lots to add. But it does reflect me, my style and my attitude. It’s summery to match the weather I’m experiencing here down in New Zealand. It’s a fresh start for 2007.

For some time, I’ve been wanting to combine my main site with my blog in some way. I also wanted a fresh install of Wordpress and chose to export my entries then import them into my new version, using a handy Wordpress export and import tool. I’m using the home page control plugin which enables me to run my entire site using one install of Wordpress with the blog entries all still appearing in that subdirectory.

Other plugins I’m running include:

Happy New Year everyone!

I’m off to prepare for our cocktail party tomorrow night…

  1. You have, as ever, done a really good job, I love how it integrates across the whole site.

Happy New Year, and have a great party.

  2. Great re-design. The new version is superfocused on your achievements and case studies. Having the portfolio elements on your front page with clear and brief description of what you do works really well. Ill have to feature you on psychsplash!

  3. Rachel, love the repackaging of your new website. :)

I’ve got a question though, what made you eliminate all clutter on the blog landing page (sidebar and etc) and now made it even more focus?

Would love to know your reason for action of going back to the basics.

    Cheers.

  4. Hi Danny,

Good question. In fact, I should probably write a post about this but in essence, I’ve always liked less clutter and I wasn’t changing the other content like I should have (too busy).

    Happy New Year!

  6. Just a quick heads up…
The Nicer Trackbacks plugin download seems to be borked (the link http://www.cre8d-design.com/blog/code/rvc_trackback.txt goes to step 2 of your ‘theme design’ series).
    Great design though!
