Life blood (Part 1)

April 27, 2007

Life has a way of throwing surprises at you. Just when you think the three month safety window has passed, you learn that your little one’s heart has just stopped. Just when you think you’ll be able to begin to move on after a simple operation, your life hangs in the balance. Just when you think you will be able to recover, you’re told you must have a blood transfusion. Just when you thought you were having a couple of days of work for Easter, two weeks of being told not to lift a finger have gone by.

Sometimes plans have to be thrown out the window and new ones dreamt of when you have strength to dream again.

Thank you for all your kind messages, prayers, flowers and support.

  6. The loss of children is always hard to comprehend. It’s never thought of and obviously if it was then, things could’ve been prevented. My mother has been through around 4 miscarriages, this isn’t to take any load off of what you might be feeling now but, to loose one child has to have a huge impact of all forms of emotion, feeling and thoughts of both yourself and Regan.

Be strong, and don’t loose faith.

  7. I meant to write something web-related (thanking you for your tutorial, which will eventually enlighten me and some follow-up questions), but I just want to let you know that I cannot begin to imagine what you must be going through. My best wishes from Brussels - and may whoever / whatever give you the strength to get through this difficult time.

  10. A hug and a prayer from my heart to yours, across the miles.

    Psalm 71: 20-21
Though you have made me see troubles, many and bitter, you will restore my life again; from the depths of the earth you will again bring me up. You will increase my honor and comfort me once again.

  11. Hi Rachel, having suffered a similar I grieve with you with somewhat of an understanding of the depth of your sorrow …

… and having myself gone past that loss, now type these prayers for you from the hospital room of my father.

… a situation that reminds me to pray for you and others, as others have been praying on behalf of me.

Please hang in there, the Lord does have His purposes, though such incredibly painful experiences confound, confuse and challenge our faith in Him and His Grace.

  12. Best wishes Rachel. I wish you well in love, life and health.

  13. I just found this site and want to offer my condolences. My wife and I are expecting our first any day now and I can only imagine the sorrow and grief you are experiencing. I am so sincerely sorry.

I offer this quote as a source of comfort:

“Was there ever a man who truly loved a woman, or a woman who truly loved a man, who did not pray that their relationship might continue beyond the grave? Has a child ever been buried by parents who did not long for the assurance that their loved one would again be theirs in a world to come? Can anyone believing in eternal life doubt that the God of heaven would grant His sons and daughters that most precious attribute of life, the love that finds its most meaningful expression in family relationships?

No, reason demands that the family relationship shall continue after death. The human heart longs for it, and the God of heaven has revealed a way whereby it may be secured.” - Gordon B. Hinckley

  14. Rachel & Regan,

Our loss was between Zach and Alex. To say “we know,” seems trite and shallow somehow.

Our tears are with you. We love you.

  15. Oh Rachel, I just read your blog entry and I’m so sorry to learn of your loss. I had a miscarriage in my first pregnancy and I imagine every woman deals with it differently. *hugs* In my second pregnancy, after that three month window, I was told by my ob/gyn that there was only a 2% chance of losing the baby now. But in the 19th week, during a routine ultrasound, the technician discovered I was one of the 2%. I had an incompetent cervix and the fetus was about to slip away any day. Thankfully we were both saved.

Again, I’m really sorry to read about your sad news.
