We enjoyed working with Mark Brunetz, the Emmy Award winning interior designer. We redesigned his site from a static informational site into a lively blog which enabled his fans to engage with him.

An Artist, Flowers, and a Saint Bernard

We recently launched artist Sarah Meder’s personal blog: An Artist, Flowers and a Saint Bernard.

She introduces her blog by saying:

I am an artist, one of many struggling artists out there in this economy today, looking for a way to make ends meet, without giving up the thing that makes them tick. This blog is my solution and my gift to myself. I wrote a lot in high school and throughout my undergraduate degree and then simply nothing, I stopped. To write again is truly a relief.

This blog is a way to rediscover my love for the things and people in my life that matter to me and to share my rediscovery of this love with you, my readers!

Oh, and her dog writes a series of posts too!

Whale Oil

We recently redesigned New Zealand’s most visited political blog, Whale Oil, just in time for the big build up to our general election.

Cameron Slater’s hard hitting, controversial and highly publicised blog was rebuilt in WordPress (as the backend had got all mucked up during past upgrades) and the 40,000+ comments were imported into Disqus, making it easier for commenters to add their thoughts to the site.

Since we wanted to retain the strong blog feel to the site but enable visitors to quickly see all the latest posts (since there are many a day), today’s “table of contents” is found at the top of the sidebar. Further, there’s a way for Whale Oil to highlight a specific post to readers via the “Must Read” bar.

Archives are arranged in a nice grid of months (useful for checking past events on a political blog).

The site is also optimized for mobile browsers, which comprise a decent proportion of visitors to the site.

It was a pleasure working with Cameron and love how the redesign turned out!

There’s plenty of gorgeous food blogs out there, but Kathryn O’Malley’s newly launched blog, Dramatic Pancake, has a unique twist: it’s not just a recipe blog but one which tells the stories behind the recipes:

Dramatic Pancake is an exploration of interesting stories, favorite recipes and the meals that mean different things to all of us. Find out here how a marriage sprung from a cherry pie –- how a Wednesday-night tradition turned into a spin-off on spaghetti and meat sauce –- and what leeks have to do with love.

We did the design and development for her name blog which has some nice (subtle) design features and functionality: you can explore by person, recipe or course in the archives, her favorite links have been nicely presented and recipes are lovingly laid out.
