Clinical trial unit Health Trends Research redesigned using Wordpress as a CMS.

It’s long overdue! I have been so busy with designing other people’s sites that I just haven’t had the time to dedicate to working on my own. With a new year approaching rapidly, I finally have got my act together and am working on a redesign here. Oddly, redesigning my own site is more difficult than designing for others – partially because the choices are wide open: no list of client requirements can be more of a hindrance; and partially because I want the site to be completely fantastic and not something I’ll want to re-do again in a few months’ time. Plus, if I wait until I’m perfectly happy with the site, I’ll never get anywhere, so I’ll be aiming to have this up before Christmas.

I’ve selected a lovely font from village, chosen some fresh new colours and am working on page layouts and content right now.

More on the redesign soon!

Congratulations to Stephen, who codes for us here at cre8d design, for advancing to the final round of Google’s Code Jam programming competition! He came 8th in the Asia/Pacific round and will next compete in California in November.

I’m proud to announce that my brother Stephen is now working with me and doing a fantastic job coding in WordPress and Drupal. He recently was part of a team that won a bronze medal in Japan at the ACM-ICPC programming competition and has recently completed his degree in computer science and mathematics at Auckland University. It was about time I had someone else to help me which leads me to my second announcement…

I’m also very excited to announce that I’m pregnant! The baby is due in October and things are going well. Thankfully no sickness ever but I am needing an awful lot of sleep (I feel like a hibernating bear at times) and get tired incredibly easily. Will keep you updated.

cre8d redesign

I’ve been putting off updating my site all year. It’s been one of those things which I’ve wanted to spend a lot of time on and never really had it. One that I wanted to do really well, and reflect me, my style, my attitude. Redesigning your own site is probably the hardest of all. You want it to be so perfect that you keep putting it off when you do get that spare moment.

So, I bit the bullet and redesigned. It’s not finished, it will be a work-in-progress (isn’t everything) and there’s lots to add. But it does reflect me, my style and my attitude. It’s summery to match the weather I’m experiencing here down in New Zealand. It’s a fresh start for 2007.

For some time, I’ve been wanting to combine my main site with my blog in some way. I also wanted a fresh install of WordPress and chose to export my entries then import them into my new version, using a handy WordPress export and import tool. I’m using the home page control plugin which enables me to run my entire site using one install of WordPress with the blog entries all still appearing in that subdirectory.

Other plugins I’m running include:

Happy New Year everyone!

I’m off to prepare for our cocktail party tomorrow night…
